Abstract: The study aimed to investigate the effect of performance appraisal on the effect of performance appraisal on employee performance in the case of commercial bank of Ethiopia. The study used descriptive and explanatory research design to address the purpose of the study. Primary and secondary data sources were used to gather relevant information from the respondents. The researcher used a multistage sampling technique to select 384 samples out of 14,185 populations from East Addis Ababa District, North Addis Ababa District, South Addis Ababa District and West Addis Ababa District. The data was analyzed quantitative using descriptive and inferential statistics. The descriptive statistics of the study analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation. On the other hand, the inferential statistics of the study analyzed using Pearson correlation coefficient and multiple linear regressions. The finding of the study depicted that, there is a positive association between the dependent variable employee’s performance and all independent variables. In the other hand the coefficient of regression was found that communication of performance standards has a significant positive effect on the employee’s performance (β = 0.279, p < 0.000) and higher predictable values than the other independent variables. The study concludes that increased employees performance is frequently argued to be the single most important driver of organizations’ long-term performance. Therefore, in order to improve employees’ performance the company’s should intensively work on employee’s appraisal.
