DETERMINANTS OF SMALL SCALE URBAN DAIRY FARMING THE CASE OF SEBETA TOWN OF OROMIA, ETHIOPIA

Title: DETERMINANTS OF SMALL SCALE URBAN DAIRY FARMING THE CASE OF SEBETA TOWN OF OROMIA, ETHIOPIA
Authors: ADMASU, TESFAKIDAN
Abstract: This study aims to investigate the determinants of small-scale urban dairy farming in Sebeta Town.
It also identified both internal and external factors that affect small scale urban dairy farming in
the study area. This research used primary data that collected from 120 randomly selected small
scale urban dairy farmers by using both open and closed ended questionnaire method and
employed Binary logistic regression model. The study found that Age, experience, education level,
access to credit, extension service, financial income from non-dairy source, feed availability and
disease found to be statistically significant. According to the study's findings, barriers to urban
dairy farming included a lack of money, a water deficit, urbanization, a problem with market
prices, limited access, and a high cost of heifers or cows. The climate of Sebeta Town is woinadega,
which is suited for urban dairy farming, and no signs of natural catastrophe have been seen in the
study region, which offers the potential for urban dairy farming. In both the federal and local
administrations, the idea of urban agriculture has received the appropriate attention. The
establishment of veterinarian service center’s is necessary to balance supply and demand, lessen
the strain of the professionals, and decrease the obstacles that led small-scale dairy producers to
abandon their businesses.

Title: CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES OF INVESTMENT ACTIVITIES IN THE CASE OF BURAYU TOWN
Authors: DINSA, ALEMAYEHU
Abstract: The purpose of the study was to investigate the challenges and opportunities of investment activities in Burayu town specifically. Specifically, the study was conducted to identify the types of investment activities involved, to examine the challenges of private investment and to find out the major opportunities of private investment activities. Descriptive research design was employed and mixed research approach was employed where data was collected from 125 firm representatives although semi-structured questionnaires. The findings of the study show that the firms were under three status pre-implementation, under implementation, and at operation. The firms are engaged on 15 different business sectors where the dominant investments were food, textile and textile products, and beverage industry. The findings of the study further shows a request of detail feasibility, inadequate credit and finance and banks bureaucracy was the main dominant problems observed with regard to load access. In terms of infrastructural challenges the most rated investors challenge were Electric power, water and sewerage, telephone and roads authorities. Apart from the sluggish judicial system, the highly boring bureaucratic system to get utilities such as water, electric, bank loans and investment license were highly constrained the investment activities in the district. The study also found out that the newly building infrastructural facilities such as road, communication, network, electric power etc. is a good opportunity for the current and future private investment. The current number of population and economic growth is also the other opportunity as demand in the area growing. In addition the availability of both skilled and unskilled labor force at lower wage rate is the other good opportunity for investment in the study area; the findings of the study also revealed that the availability and easy access to raw materials and easy access to both domestic and international market with a modern banking system, modern technology and large number of consumers is the other good opportunity for investment.

ANALYSIS OF TECHNICAL EFFICIENCY OF GREEN MUNG BEANS IN JILLE DHUMMUGA WEREDA AMHARA NATIONAL REGIONAL STATE OROMIA ZONE, ETHIOPIA

Title: ANALYSIS OF TECHNICAL EFFICIENCY OF GREEN MUNG BEANS IN JILLE DHUMMUGA WEREDA AMHARA NATIONAL REGIONAL STATE OROMIA ZONE, ETHIOPIA
Authors: HASEN, MOHAMMED
Abstract: Dry land areas are experiencing low agricultural yields due to severe water shortages
weather variability and salinity, leading to food scarcity. Green mungbean is gaining
attention as a short-season crop that can tolerate dry land conditions, and fix
atmospheric nitrogen and decreasing soil nutrient depletion. Increasing productivity and
efficiency of green mungbean production in particular could be an important role
towards achieving food security. This study was conducted to assess the technical
efficiency and factors affecting efficiency of green mungbean production in Jille
Dhummuga district of Oromia Zone Amhara regional state, Ethiopia. Both primary and
secondary data sources were used in this study. The primary data relating to farm
production, input usage, and socioeconomic and institutional factors were collected
during 2017/18 cropping year through a structured questionnaire from randomly selected
170 green mungbean farmers. The stochastic frontier and translog functional form with a
one-step approach were employed to assess efficiency and factors affecting efficiency in
mungbean production. The mean technical efficiencies were found to be 84.9% for
mungbean production. This implies that it is possible to increase green mung bean yield
up to 15.1%. The production efficiency of this green mungbean farming was determined
by gender, age, education, farm size, farm experience, livestock population, family size
variability and climate change. Policy implications drawn from this study include support
initiatives like improving access of improved seed quality, productive agronomic practise
gender-sensitive agricultural intervention; improvement, encouraging group approach
extension service, scaling out of best practices and promotion to the multi-dimensional
importance of green mungbean.

Authors: ADDIS, MIKEYAS
Abstract: This studydeterminants of flower farm labour productivity:the case of selected flower farms in bishoftuoromiya region of Ethiopia. This study focus the selected two flower farms, until the period of March to June, 2017.Thelabour productivitywas measured by output and input of the production. Determinants of flower farms labour productivity are measured by efficiency and productivity. Labour productivitywas measured by government policy. Which Sustainability wasmeasured. Efficiency and productivity are measured by physical capital, human capital and economic scale. Production was measured by innovation .Product quality was measured by physical capital. Methods of the study primary and secondary data. Methods of collection questionarie sample size from both flower farm from 500 selected 144 ,sampling procedure the researcher would be prepared the questionnaires by English and Amharic version,
Finally, the researcher intends to postulate that, the economic scalewasa determinant for government policy.Besides, the physical capital and public capital are determinants of government policy, Observationsof the innovation variable ofthe study imply causality for the holiday as a determinant of respective models.
